After six months of mud, sweat and gears, the destination of the 2023 AMCA British Motocross Championship titles have finally been decided. During the final round promoted by the Cheltenham Spa MXC and held on a Brookthorpe track that was super tacky and very raceable, there was to be hardly any major movements in the hunt for titles bar one very notable exception!!
The weekend at Bromsberrow was the penultimate event of the 2023 series thus also testing the temperament of those riders in Championship contention, could they remain cool and composed under pressure, well let’s find out! First out on track was the combined Youth 125cc/BWMA Women’s Championship and in that one both of the series leaders, Shane Jones (Apex GasGas UK) and Marni Saunders (Kawasaki) safely came through with flying colours and overall victories.
The combination of a Long Lane circuit running in reverse direction mixed with a nice sprinkling of ‘Wildcard riders’ and changing track conditions resulted in a very interesting round 6 of the AMCA British Motocross Championship on Sunday. That decision to go in the opposite direction proved popular with the riders, making the going more technical and a little slower. Those ingredients also meant that battles raged right throughout the day in most classes and created several very close finishes!
Again, proving its immense popularity, the iconic Hawkstone Park attracted a deluge of wildcard entries as the AMCA staged round 5 of their 2023 British Motocross Championship on Sunday. Not only did those riders boost the start line numbers but also add plenty of extra spice to the racing on offer. However, those wildcards did not have it all their own way with some of the AMCA classes producing a story of very much ‘as you were’ and similar finishing positions to the already completed rounds!
With thunderstorms expected to arrive on raceday, it meant that Middlewich MXC, the host club for round 4 of the AMCA British Motocross Championship were faced with a major dilemma regarding track preparation! Should they literally flood the dry, hard surface and then hope the predicted storms fail to materialise or instead get just enough moisture into the ground to control the dust threat whilst hoping for some extra assistance from that big watering can in the sky.
After a recent enforced break due to wet weather, the 2023 AMCA British Motocross Championship returned to action at the weekend with the latest round held at Lower Drayton in Staffordshire. Being a double header event, there was plenty of points on offer and Shane Carless (MX2), Shane Jones (125cc Youth), Ryan Jackson (SW85cc) and Matt Ryder (Vets O50) all took full advantage to bag maximum points.
The sandy expanses of the Fatcat Motoparc in Yorkshire was the venue for round one of the 2023 AMCA British Motocross Championship on Easter weekend. Held over two day’s, this year’s series is also incorporating the BWMA (British Women’s Motocross Association) and the fast females who were competing in a couple of the same groups as the lads certainly got stuck in, producing determined, high class performances!
