Walsall MCC organised the 5th round of the Midlands AMCA championship at their motocross track at Hobs Hole Lane, Aldridge on Sunday. 34 riders of all abilities turned out to attempt four laps of ten sections laid out on and around the motocross track. To add a bit more of a challenge tree trunks, concrete sleepers and tractor tyres were positioned in just the wrong place for an easy ride.
For a change the weather did as was forecast and the sections thawed out and riders found grip on all sections (eventually) and the rain held off.
Section 9, a concrete staircase with an extra high step at the top, took the most marks from expert riders while most of the rest of the field dropped marks through out the sections.
Darren Jones had the best ride of the day on his new TRS with a loss of just 4 marks. Ben Morris and Pete Ruscoe tied on 7 marks apiece with Ben taking 2nd on most cleans.
Senior clubman Harry Hall was first on 18 marks with Elliot Petrek on 21 and Ian Brittain on 29. Jonathan Reeves who has recently moved up to clubman was a very creditable 4th on 40.
Robin Foulkes was best Non-expert on 6 marks with Kevin Stannard 2nd just 1 mark away with 7. An uncharacteristic 5 on section 8, where the climb up the final bank had cut away during the day, lost him the win. Paul Hadlington was 3rd on 14 marks and young Timothy Shirley on his Beta 80 was 4th on 19. a great ride.
Robert Mycock on his twin shock Majesty 320 matched Robin Foulkes with 6 marks dropped.
On the beginners route Alex Holliday was first on 26 marks with Nathan Frost 2nd on 29.
Thanks to all observers, course plotters and land owners for your help in making this a great day’s sport.
