CLASSIC DIRT BIKE SHOW

TELFORD OFF-ROAD SHOW GUESTS OF HONOUR ANNOUNCED

The countdown has begun to the biggest classic off-road event of the year, and so it’s all eyes on the Telford International Centre which will once again host the two-day Classic Dirt Bike Show sponsored by Hagon Shocks.

Taking place across the weekend of February 18-19, one of the star guests has been confirmed as Honda’s MXGP general manager Roger Harvey who is a motocross veteran and 1983 British 125 champion.

After a riding career spanning nearly two decades, Harvey managed the Castrol Honda British and World Supersport Championship team playing a key role in the development of the Isle of Man TT Fireblade with John McGuinness. He soon returned to the dirt, however, heading up Honda’s motocross programme, and it’s a role he’s held since.

Joining Harvey as special guest will be Peter Duke – a former International Six Days Enduro competitor, founder of motorcycle media giant Duke Video and son of six-time motorcycle world champion Geoff. Duke Video is the world’s biggest distributor of motorsport entertainment, and visitors will get the chance to hear about its history along with Peter’s stories about his legendary father and tales from his own life within the sport.

Roger will be joining AMCA General Manager Suzanne Potts on the Saturday afternoon on the main stage to present the trophies to the winners of the AMCA British Classic MX Championship sponsored by Classic Dirt Bike. Dave Gittins, organiser of the Championship will also be hand to talk to perspective Championship riders for 2017. Fixtures for this year’s Championship are available to view on the AMCA website www.amca.uk.com

AMCA members please respond – FIGHT VNUK!

The outcome of a government consultation on a piece of EU insurance legislation could end motorsport in the UK.

In December the Government issued a document for public consultation, which gives an option of implementing the European Court decision known as the ‘Vnuk judgment’.  The ruling makes it compulsory for anyone using any form of motorised transport to have third party damage and injury insurance. This will affect all participants in all forms of motorsport.

The insurance industry has made it clear to government that third party risks for motorsport activities are uninsurable, not least because of the sheer number of potential vehicle damage claims that would arise. Therefore, if implemented, the Vnuk judgment would wipe out all legal motor and motorcycle sport activity.

The AMCA, MCIA and ACU call on the government to exempt motor and motorcycle sport from any changes to insurance law which arise from the ECJ judgement.

Speaking for the AMCA, ACU and MCIA, Steve Kenward, CEO of MCIA says:

“If the Government implements the Vnuk judgment un-amended, British motorcycle sport would end in the UK.  Given that we are coming out of the EU, we are astonished that the Government is even considering an option to implement Vnuk.  We call on Ministers to end uncertainty and put a stop to Vnuk in the UK.”

As a first step in the fight against VNUK, Suzanne Potts General Manager of AMCA and the AMCA Board of Directors are appealing to all members to sign the change.org appeal LINK HERE to raise awareness of the issue and send a clear message to Government.
